The rise of the cloud

Atualizado: 4 de jan. de 2022

COVID-19 pandemic impacted the world, and 2020 was an unexpected year like no other, but on the technology perspective, what we considered advanced a few years ago is now essential. Videoconferencing and always-on wireless networks became fundamental, as well as the data platforms that support organisations.

Over the past decade, the cloud has been recognized as a transformational technology, and this trend started well before the pandemic, but COVID-19's impact on organisations has certainly accelerated it.

Organisations will embrace a Hybrid or Multicloud approach to meet their application, data locality, and cost requirements. This service will provide consistency across on-premises and cloud environments, helping organisations leverage the optimal environment to power their services, providing greater flexibility to work better and faster.

“Despite the increased adoption of cloud services this year, especially those added to support the shift to remote work, organisations are still left asking themselves how to make the best use of the investments they’ve already made,” King says. “This provides a huge opportunity for businesses who have embraced the hybrid cloud reality, and we expect to see more businesses take advantage of the strategic implications of a hybrid approach that balance costs, performance, security, compliance, and governance requirements.”

Hybrid cloud is when we have an architecture that combines two types of cloud, a public cloud and a private cloud. Multicloud refers to the combination of two public clouds from different cloud providers. Before choosing a model, organisations should look at their needs to find the best solution. Both have advantages for the business, and it is here that a specialist who analyses, priorities and with intended objectives can be an asset to help decide the type of approach and investment to make. Each model offers advantages and disadvantages when it comes to flexibility, performance, costs, security, and compliance. But there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution.
